Tour Gan

back

Tour Gan is one of the most famous buildings in La Défense. While under construction in the spring of 1972, it caused a real commotion. As it rose in the sky it became visible from the Champs Elysées behind the Arc de Triomfe. Newspapers in Paris began an anti-skyscraper campaign. At a certain moment it even looked as if the building had to become shorter than planned.

The New York architect of the building used curtain wall for the outside. The building form allows direct daylight to a maximum amount of workers.

I think it's a really elegant building, the cladding looks a bit dated though.
